May 30 - June 8, 2011
Friends,
Lord willing, the Jason Harms Quintet will have the pleasure of testifying of the Lord’s grace and mercy in our lives in Scotland May 30 - June 8, 2011.
Neil MacMillan, a worker with the Acts 29 church planting network, reports this about the state of the church in Scotland: “Fifty years ago, 40% of Scottish people attended church every week. Today in Edinburgh, our capital city, less than 2% do so. The Reformation in Scotland was an astonishing work of evangelism. Today Scotland waits to be re-evangelized. It is said that planting 7000 churches in Scotland would simply take us back to the same number of churches we had 20 years ago.” (www.acts29network.org)
We have several opportunities to come alongside the local church and serve them in serving their people the Gospel of Jesus Christ. One of our pastoral contacts invites us with this, “I have some responsibility for a redevelopment church in Nairn…It is a small town, but is the location for a reasonably well-known jazz festival. We have been looking at outreach events which would engage with the surrounding culture.”
Would you like to partner in the Gospel with us by sending us to Scotland? The trip expense for each person is around $2800. Your tax-deductible donation can be received through the DONATE button on this page.
Two points of interest:
1. One of the special issues we face on these trips is traveling with our instruments, especially with the double bass. It is a large, beautiful instrument that airlines do not appreciate in quite the same way musicians do. On our return flight from Romania last year we ran into quite an obstacle and expense. BUT, the Lord has given grace to a man to build a “folding bass” with flight case (watch here: foldingbass.com) which means the bass can now be flown as checked baggage, under 50 pounds – and no overage fees! (This purchase will be an additional one-time investment of $3600.)
2. We are cutting a "SOUNDSCAPES IN ROMANIA WITH THE JASON HARMS QUINTET" piece that will put you right there with us on last year’s trip! Curt Olson caught a ton of Gospel, sweet fellowship, traveling nuances, Gypsy accordions, jazz, horse carts, the local sounds, etc - soon to be finished. But, as an encouragement for you on your investment in the Gospel in the past, here is a sample chapter of our time with The Church in Targu Ocna. Put on your headphones to enjoy the dimensional details in soundscape recording.
Please pray that God would go before us, behind us, and all around us to make our footsteps firm, our faith unshakable, our eyes able to see as He sees, our tongues bold and gracious, our hearts tender, our bodies steadfast and ready, our posture ready to learn and receive, and our countenances full of the joy of Christ! We thank God and you for your involvement in the past. This fruit will be credited to your account (Phil. 4:17).
